How we know

Most noise data comes from highway sensors and 311 complaints. Ours comes from the sidewalk.

We walk it ourselves

180+ walks since June 2026 and 90+ hours on the pavement, at one measurement a second, with a meter in hand. Nothing scraped from a sensor on a highway.

Four neighborhoods, end to end

Brooklyn Heights-Cobble Hill, Midtown, East Harlem North and Spuyten Duyvil-Kingsbridge: nearly 24 miles on foot, 87% to 97% of the streets in each.

The rest of the city is modelled

A model fit on those walks fills in the streets we haven't reached yet, using street width, distance to an arterial, distance to the corner, and how built-up the block is. The block card tells you which one you're looking at.
